On 8/14/13 marco.gasperina asked, “I would like to start exploring ways to update the code residing on a uEZGUI-1788-WQR device, and eventually a similar production board. The idea would be to copy an executable onto the SD card and reset the device. When the device boots, it notices the file and configures itself to reflash with the code in the file.
Is that possible? Workable? Are there other potential options?”

We have a bootloader that you can purchase as part of uEZ+ that will support this feature. It also supports boot loading from a USB flash drive.
The quick explanation of its usage is you would modify a few of your project settings, then JTAG the provided bootloader image onto the uEZGUI. Then load the application using either JTAG or the bootloader itself. Then the end customer can update the application using an SD card with the right files on it. Our bootloader is very well tested and supports many different use cases. For example it can detect different types of units by ID so you could flash multiple types of devices using 1 SD card or flash drive. It also should support flash drives using an OTG cable on the 43WQR. Our bootloader has a GUI touch interface so the user would click a button on the screen to start the actual update process. Our bootloader also supports configuration files to possibly turn on such things as automatic flashing, etc The bootloader has error handling for events such as incomplete flash, power removed during flashing, etc.
